They are in dire need of nonperishable supplies, especially items for Thanksgiving, such as stuffing, canned sweet potatoes, cornbread and biscuit mix, cream of mushroom soup, cans of french fried onions, bags of marshmallows, cranberry sauce, gravy, and cake mixes, canned soup, cereal, canned fruit and protein. Please go to the store and pick up some of these non-perishable items and drop them at one of the three locations. They would also welcome any grocery store gift cards. They will be so appreciative!

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR OUR FOOD DRIVE!!!!

A MESSAGE FROM THE TEMPLE ISRAEL MEN'S CLUB

Guys,

Here's an opportunity for the Men's Club to help our fellow Virginians who, because of the pandemic or other misfortunes, can't keep food on the table. They would really appreciate our support and we'll feel good knowing that we helped them. This is a great activity to do with your family.

Join Temple Israel's Food Drive on Sunday, November 8, 11 am to 1 pm

Fill a bag with groceries. Or fill two bags, or three. Non-perishable items for a Thanksgiving meal are particularly desirable at this time of year, but all non-perishable foods are welcome. All donations go to the Jewish Family Services Food Bank.

Drop your groceries off on Nov. 8 (between 11 am and 1 pm) at any of our four collection points

---Temple Israel in Norfolk

---Uno Pizza at Janef Shopping Center, Norfolk (drop off anytime between now and November 8, receive a $5 coupon towards an Uno meal)

---The Oceans Condominiums, 4004 Atlantic Avenue, in Virginia Beach

---4653 Larkwood Dr., Kempsville area of Virginia Beach

If you can't get to the grocery store or get out on Nov. 8th, please mail a check made out to "JFS Food Bank" to Temple Israel, 7255 Granby St., Norfolk, VA 23505

Thanks for all you might do.

PLEASE continue to mail in your dues payments. Even though our staff is not in the building for 8 hours a day each week, the building has not been shut down - it is still using the utilities and we still have bills. Your dues payments allow us to continue to be able to pay our employees who are still working remotely and pay our everyday bills.
Thank you!

Please remember to contact the office if you change your phone number, drop your land line, change your email address, or move.

Thank you!

Please remember to fill your tzedakah boxes at home while we are not having minyan services in the building. Once we come back into the building, you can bring the money you collected and we will apply it towards our minyan fund. Or, you can send a check in and specify it's for the minyan fund. The money that is collected during our minyan services is donated to many needy causes. Now, more than ever, there is a huge need for donations to these causes. Please remember there are people who are going hungry and have lost their jobs because of this coronavirus and they need our help.

On November 15 (7:30 - 8:30 p.m.), JELF (Jewish Educational Loan Fund) will host a live financial aid session, addressing the options for college and grad students looking for financial aid -- and where to start in these uncertain times.

During this 1 hour webinar, we'll discuss paying for college including scholarships/grants and the varying types of student loans, including JELF's interest-free option. We'll also have time for Q&A. Please share with those families you know who may be in, or going into, any higher educational program.

There has never been a more crucial time for students to find financial aid options. Even with virtual learning, the cost of higher education continues to increase.

Please let your families know this week about this presentation. We want to help as many students as possible.

If you would like to be a shomer, please give the office a call so we can add you to the list. Shomrim sit with a deceased after they have been shrouded and before the funeral so that they are never alone. If you would like more information, please call Norman Soroko at (757)641-3445.

LADIES, PLEASE DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR OLD MASCARA - BRING IT TO OUR OFFICE SO WE CAN CLEAN THE BRUSHES AND PASS IT ALONG TO THE WILDLIFE REHABILITATOR WHO WILL USE THEM TO CLEAN THE BABY ANIMALS SHE GETS. SHE CAN ALSO USE PUPPY PIDDLE PADS AND 75 WATT INFRARED LIGHT BULBS.

WE WILL COLLECT THESE ITEMS ALL YEAR, SO PLEASE DROP THEM OFF AT THE OFFICE.

The next time you're at the synagogue, be sure to look at our Pet Memorial Board.
It's located on the stair wall as you go up to Brody Auditorium.
It's a wonderful way to remember your beloved pet.

The Men's Chevra Kaddisha is looking for volunteers.

Participating on the Chevra Kaddisha is the highest form of a mitzvah you can perform. You are the last contact the deceased has before the funeral and you are the one who ensures they have a proper Jewish burial. It is one of the most rewarding acts you will ever do. If you are interested, or have questions, please contact Larry Stein.
