Temple Israel will be helping First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk with NEST on Wednesday, December 16th beginning at 5:30PM. With COVID, of course things will be different. Thanks to Norman Soroko, we will be getting prepackaged meals from UNO's to hand out for dinner that evening. We will need about 6 volunteers to assist with handing out the dinners. If you would like to help, please call the synagogue to let us know. Masks will be required and proper social distancing will be followed.
PLEASE continue to mail in your dues payments. Even though our staff is not in the building for 8 hours a day each week, the building has not been shut down - it is still using the utilities and we still have bills. Your dues payments allow us to continue to be able to pay our employees who are still working remotely and pay our everyday bills.
Thank you!
Please remember to contact the office if you change your phone number, drop your land line, change your email address, or move.
Thank you!

JFS CHANUKAH GIFT PROGRAM

006

As you know, we always participate in the Jewish Family Service Chanukah Gift Program for Jewish families in need. Due to COVID-19, the program will be different this year. They are only asking for gift cards to be sent to JFS, indicating the gift card is for the Chanukah Gift Program. If you decide to participate, please indicate you are from Temple Israel when you send the gift card(s) to JFS.

Thank you for helping families in need in the Hampton Roads area give their children a wonderful Chanukah.

012
Please remember to fill your tzedakah boxes at home while we are not having minyan services in the building. Once we come back into the building, you can bring the money you collected and we will apply it towards our minyan fund. Or, you can send a check in and specify it's for the minyan fund. The money that is collected during our minyan services is donated to many needy causes. Now, more than ever, there is a huge need for donations to these causes. Please remember there are people who are going hungry and have lost their jobs because of this coronavirus and they need our help.

Learn About College Financial Aid During COVID.

On November 15 (7:30 - 8:30 p.m.), JELF (Jewish Educational Loan Fund) will host a live financial aid session, addressing the options for college and grad students looking for financial aid -- and where to start in these uncertain times.

During this 1 hour webinar, we'll discuss paying for college including scholarships/grants and the varying types of student loans, including JELF's interest-free option. We'll also have time for Q&A. Please share with those families you know who may be in, or going into, any higher educational program.

There has never been a more crucial time for students to find financial aid options. Even with virtual learning, the cost of higher education continues to increase.

Please let your families know this week about this presentation. We want to help as many students as possible.

LADIES, PLEASE DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR OLD MASCARA - BRING IT TO OUR OFFICE SO WE CAN CLEAN THE BRUSHES AND PASS IT ALONG TO THE WILDLIFE REHABILITATOR WHO WILL USE THEM TO CLEAN THE BABY ANIMALS SHE GETS. SHE CAN ALSO USE PUPPY PIDDLE PADS AND 75 WATT INFRARED LIGHT BULBS.

WE WILL COLLECT THESE ITEMS ALL YEAR, SO PLEASE DROP THEM OFF AT THE OFFICE.

The next time you're at the synagogue, be sure to look at our Pet Memorial Board.
It's located on the stair wall as you go up to Brody Auditorium.
It's a wonderful way to remember your beloved pet.

The Men's Chevra Kaddisha is looking for volunteers.

Participating on the Chevra Kaddisha is the highest form of a mitzvah you can perform. You are the last contact the deceased has before the funeral and you are the one who ensures they have a proper Jewish burial. It is one of the most rewarding acts you will ever do. If you are interested, or have questions, please contact Larry Stein.
